O BMW Motorrad Motorsport Team preparou-se para a sua participação no 2008 FIM Qtel Endurance World Championship.

A primeira corrida de 2008 terá lugar dias [size=100]19 e 20 de Abril em Le Mans, França (este fim de semana).[/SIZE]

5ª Prova: 13/14 Setembro - Bol D'Or / França (24 h)
6ª Prova: 08 Novembro - Losail / Qatar (8 h)

A BMW já participou nos 2 dias de testes no circuito Bugatti e encontra-se praparada para confirmar a sua presença nesta prestigiada corrida.

2 Equipas de Fábrica pilotando as HP2 Sport marcarão a presença da BMW Motorrad. Experiente Piloto de endurance como Stephan Mertens com o Nº 17 que fará equipa com o Belga Sebastian Le Grelle e o Alemão Rico Penzkofer, o Inglês Richard Cooper, o Espanhol José-Luis Nion e o Norte Americano Brian Parriott.

«Dobradinha» para a Suzuki nas 24 H de Le Mans
A toda poderosa escudaria Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) conseguiu uma «dobradinha» nas 24 Horas de Le Mans. O 3º lugar do pódio foi parar à surpreendente Equipa Yamaha Acrópolis Moto Expert.

O começo da clássica prova de resistência foi muito dramático. O Espanhol Julián Mazuecos (Kawasaki France) ia lider quando sofreu uma aparatosa queda devido à repentina aparição da chuva. A ZX 10 R partiu o chassis e a Equipa decediu pelo abandono sem que nada acontecesse a Julián neste acidente.

Já depois das 5 da tarde quando a Equipa Yamaha France GTM 94 liderava as 24 Horas de Le Mans, à frente da Suzuki Nº 1, o Piloto da GTM 94 e Companheiro de David Checa, Sébastien Gimbert, tinha que deixar a R1 à borda da pista porque a embraiagem queimou.

O começo das 24 Horas de Le Mans nesta ocasão foi afinal terrorífico pois nos seus momentos iniciais desapareceram de cena um bom número de Equipas favoritas à vitória: Kawasaki France, Yamaha France GMT 94, Honda National Moto e Yamaha Austria Racing.

Na 3ª hora da corrida, as duas Suzuki SERT lideravam a prova por diante da Equipa privada da Suzuki Infini Team. Outras duas Equipas permanentes estavam entre os cinco primeiros: Phase One Endurance e YMES Folch Endurance (Dani Ribalta, Pedro Lluís Valcaneras e Felipe López Córdoba).

Depois de 9 horas de corrida as duas motos da todo poderosa Equipa Suzuki Endurance Racing Team lideravam a prova. A Suzuki Nº 1 (Vincent Philippe, Matthieu Lagrive e Julien da Costa) mantinham o primeiro lugar por diante da Suzuki Nº 2 (William Costes, Guillaume Dietrich e Barry Veneman). Durante muitissimas voltas a Equipa britânica Phase One Endurance lutou com a Equipa de Josep Maria Folch até que um problema com o eixo traseiro da Yamaha os atirou para depois da vigésima posição.

A Equipa de José Luis Nion (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) teve que retirar-se depois cumprir 733 voltas enquanto que Josep Monge e a sua Equipa (Motors TV / MV Agusta) abandonaram logo depois da partida. Finalmente, a Suzuki Nº 2 (Costes, Dietrich e Veneman) registou a sua participação nesta prova com 11 voltas de vantagem sobre a Suzuki Nº 1 (Phillipe, Lagrive e Da Coste). A Equipa Yamaha Acrópolis Moto Expert ficou-se pela 3ª posição superando uma autêntica «corrida de obstáculos». Assim Fastré, Leblanc e Dos Santos ganharam a partida à Suzuki Infini Yohann Moto Sport, quartos e à Suzuki Junior Team, a primeira Equipa classificada na categoria de Superstock.




Da Motociclismo Portuguesa pode ler-se:

24 horas foram suficientes para que a Suzuki Nº 2 completasse 770 voltas ao circuito Bugati e, vencesse a corrida, levando para o pódio atrás de si a outra moto do SERT e a Yamaha Nº 99 do Team Acropolis Moto Exp99.

Na classe Superstock ...
A Suzuki consegue outra dobradinha, desta feita com a Moto Nº 72 do Junior Team e a moto Nº 95 do Qatar Endurance Racing Team. A este pódio também subiu uma Yamaha ao lugar mais baixo, a do Team LGT 57. De salientar que os Vencedores desta categoria terminaram num fantástico sexto lugar da tabela de classificação geral, o que mostra bem o nível de fidelidade e prestações destas motos bastante menos preparadas que as da categoria principal.

Na classe Open ...
“Venceu” a BMW HP2 número 71, apesar de se ter retirado da corrida poucos minutos antes das 24 Horas, tendo cumprido 733 voltas, um avanço significativo de mais de 350 voltas para a “segunda classificada”, a moto da equipa de fábrica da Ducati que cortou a meta com menos 395 voltas que o líder da prova.

Mas a ... BMW Motorrad não pontuou para a classificação geral ... uma das HP2 Sport desistiu às quase 10H00 e a outra não chegou a corta a meta ... já a ver a bandeira do xadrez





Ainda muito faltará para vermos a BMW no pódio

SUPERB ONE-TWO CLASS WIN FOR TEAM BMW MOTORRAD MOTORSPORT IN OSCHERSLEBENSUPERB

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport took a superb 1-2 in their class at the fourth round of this year’s Qtel Endurance FIM Championship at Oschersleben today. Twenty-two teams contested the Open Class in the 8 hour race, but BMW Motorrad Motorsport defeated them all, with Richard Cooper and Thomas Hinterreiter taking first place and Stéphane Mertens, Rico Penzkofer and Gregory Fastré taking runner-up spot.
In the overall results, Cooper and Hinterreiter were heading for a tremendous ninth place until just forty-five minutes from the end. But Hinterreiter highsided when he went wide exiting an unlit turn and although he remounted, he lost three places and ended 12th overall, just ahead of Mertens, Penzkofer and Fastré.
Team Kawasaki France (Ivan Silva, Julian Mazuecos, Erwan Nigon) won the race, with Yamaha Austria (Steve Plater, Steve Martin, Igor Jerman) second and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (Vincent Philippe, Matthieu Lagrive, Julien da Costa) third.

Bike no 17
Richard Cooper: "I am a little disappointed because it would’ve been tremendous to have finished ninth in the race, but accidents happen and it was nobody’s fault - just one of those things. My goal today was to be the first BMW across the line and Thomas and I did that. Apart from the crash, we had no problems at all and the bike and the whole team worked very well. This was a much harder race than last year’s race. Firstly there were many more strong competitors in our class and secondly because this year the race was eight hours long instead of twenty-four. Eight hours is a sprint and that doesn’t really suit our bike, so, all things considered, I think we did pretty well."

Thomas Hinterreiter: "The crash happened so fast, I couldn’t do anything about it. I think I ran a bit wide exiting the turn and went onto the white line and the dirt. The rear end just snapped round and I was highsided. Luckily I was able to get back on the bike and carry on, but the fall cost us three places and I am sorry for that. But apart from that, the bike worked better then last year and the tyres felt better as well. The team once again worked superbly and the pit-stops all went smoothly. I would’ve preferred a twenty-four race, as I think we would have had a much better chance of a higher finish, but eight hours was what we had to race and at least we were 1-2 in our class - despite there being many more strong teams then last year."

Bike no 71
Stéphane Mertens: "Generally I am happy that we got 1-2 in our class, but I guess I was hoping that we’d also finish in the top ten. In an eight hour race that was always going to be a tough task - especially considering the strength of the opposition. I was happy with my first stint, but not so happy with my second because I had to use much more pressure on the brakes, so maybe I need more power in my hand. Because Gregory is good in the dark, we decided to let him finish the race and that worked out very well. I think that Richard did a great job and showed that this bike is a great bike and one that can cause a few surprises. Our pit-stops were very impressive and the whole team worked superbly all weekend."

Rico Penzkofer: "That was a tough race today, because it was an eight hour sprint, not a twenty-four marathon. With all the extra competitors in our class, it was never going to be easy winning it, but we came home 1-2 and that’s all you can really ask for. We had no problems at all during the eight hours and although we didn’t get the top ten finish we would’ve liked, we showed that a twin can still compete with the big boys and give them a run for their money."
Gregory Fastré: "I really enjoyed that, but I wish it could’ve gone on for twenty-four hours! I love riding in the dark and enjoyed myself a lot out there. The whole team were wonderful and it is thanks to all the great teamwork that we finished 1-2 in our class and that is no mean achievement when you consider how many strong competitors were in the race. The result is good for BMW and I hope that they think of me again when the next race comes up."

Berti Hauser (Director BMW Motorrad Motorsport): "First of all, I’m happy about the results. We could not do any better in our class then to get a 1-2 and that’s what we did. A eight hour sprint does not suit our bike, but everybody worked hard and the teamwork helped us get this good result. After our bad luck in Le Mans, it was great to finish on the podium. The crash by Thomas was unlucky, but at least he was uninjured and able to carry on and that was the only problem either of our two bikes had in the race. I am happy that we finished the first non-Japanese bike and the first twin. There were twenty-two competitors in our class today and many of them were strong teams from the German Championship, so to beat all of them is a great achievement and shows that the HP2 Sport is such a good bike."

24 Horas de Le Mans, começa o Mundial de Resistência





O Mundial de Resistência da o «pontapé de saída» este fim-de-semana com as 24 horas de Le Mans. A emoção está servida.

Um total de 46 equipas (a BMW Motorsport já não estará neste campeonato porque optou participar no Mundial de SBK) lutarão pela primeira vitória da temporada do Mundial de Resistência nas 24 Horas de Le Mans. Entre elas destaca-se o actual campeão do mundo e vencedor da prova de Le Mans do ano passado, a Suzuki Racing Team, que terá que defender o seu título frente à Yamaha France GMT 94, a equipa Yamaha Austria assim como com Honda France e Kawasaki GSR.

Este ano o Mundial de Resistência conta com uma novidade no que respeita à classificação das equipas na grelha de saída. Hoje pela manhã, todos os pilotos desfrutarão de uma primeira sessão livre de treinos mas depois terão que participar nos treinos cronometrados e na Superpole, como já acontece no Mundial de Superbike. Cada equipa seleccionará o piloto mais rápido que será quem disputará todos os cronometrados. Desta forma, na Superpole sómente participarão as 10 equipas mais rápidas resultados do resto dos treinos cronometrados.

A Superpole disputar-se-á hoje às 16:10 horas.
